The idea for the Lines of Comfort Beanie came to me as I was knitting hats for donation to cancer patients. My Dad had been through cancer treatment, and temperature sensitivity was a real issue.
I wanted to make something that was soft, warm, and simple. Something that would go with any outfit. Something that would look good on children and adults alike. Something that was easily customizable for various size heads.
This hat is knit from the bottom up. Start by using the basic long-tail cast-on method. Then work simple knit, purl and slipped stitches for the brim. The main hat pattern consisting of knit and slipped stitches.
The vertical lines and three-stitch pattern give this beanie a geometric look. The slipped stitches bring emphasis to the lines that go from the brim to crown. This adds enough interest to keep the beanie from being boring.
The decrease rounds in the crown shaping utilize the slipped stitches from the previous rounds. Knitting through the back loop gives a raised knitted decrease.
